A Cry unanswered
View(s):One day at around 1am in the morning an individual was driving his three wheeler while under the influence of alcohol . He had taken a slight bend, knocked the three wheeler on the wall and passed out on the spot with the three wheeler overturned on top of him. Even though he was well known in the area, none of the people who had come to see what the commotion was about volunteered to take this man to the hospital. It should be noted however, that all the people whose houses were around the scene of the accident had vehicles and individuals who could drive. But instead of helping the injured man everyone was shouting “someone help him!”
Isn’t this a common statement we hear in the world? There has evolved a class of people who believe that the mere fact of pointing out an issue or creating one is enough to get attention to it or to get it sorted out. As the humble Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. If you wish to put an end to hunger, feed someone. If you wish to increase literacy, teach something you know. If you wish to increase society’s standard of living, donate anything of which you can, mind, body and soul.
The next time you see a conflict, an accident or someone in need of help, don’t be afraid to act. Don’t just be a part of the community that takes out their cameras and phones and starts recording and snapping photos to feed media. The fact that we are born human, with superior intelligence, various talents and capabilities makes us responsible for the sustenance and continuance of all creation. Everyone can be a volunteer in their own way. The initial steps to help society should begin in your family, next in your neighborhood and then in the community that you live in. One thing I have not failed to notice is that people have ample opportunity to help someone out. Whether in your home, workplace, college or wherever, there are always people who are in need.
