‘Peaceful sunshine’ for Christmas
View(s):A compact disc (CD) ‘Samaye Arunella’ (Peaceful sunshine) for Christmas sung by a group of leading singers in the Sri Lankan music scene was released last week.
The album with 18 Sinhala Christmas songs were sung by Laltha Walpola, Nanda Malani, T. M. Jayaratne, Rukantha Gunatillake, Edward Jayakody, Keerthi Pasqual, Charitha Priyadarshani, Raju Bandara, Mario Ananda, Lakshman Hilmi, Jude Rogans and Kaushala Saranath Konara. Representing the Christian clergy Rev. Fr. Jude Sriyananda and Rev. Fr. Saman Maximus have sung two songs.
The music compositions are done by Somapala Ratnayake, Ananda Gamage, Rukantha Gunatillake, Ernest Soyza, Raju Bandara, Mahinda Bandara, Milroy Dharmaratne, Lakshman Hilmi, Priyantha Nawalage, Mahesh Jayawardena, Asoka Kovilage, Mario Ananda and Rev. Fr. Jude Sriyananda.
Lyrics for all the songs are by Anton J. Fernando and all proceeds from the sale of CDs are directed to the Welfare Fund of the Christian artistes. “The main aim of the release of this CD was to support Christian artistes who have become helpless,” Anton J. Fernando who took the initiation to release the CD said.
Fr. Joseph Benedict, Director of the Archdiocesan Social Communication and Cultural Centre which released ‘Samaye Arunella’ was grateful to all the artistes who freely contributed to the CD with their creative talents.
