Festivals in Sri Lanka
There are many communities in Sri Lanka such as Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Burghers. So we have different festivals.
Sinhalese and Tamils celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. It falls on April 13. They have a auspicious time to cook, eat and apply oil on their heads etc. They make lots of sweets. Buddhists also celebrate Vesak and Poson Poya by decorating their houses with lanterns and erecting pandals.
Christians celebrate Christmas on December 25. They go to church. They decorate Christmas trees with beautiful decorations.
Hindus celebrate Thai Pongal and Deepavali. They have religious ceremonies in the kovil. Muslims celebrate Ramazan and Hajj. They pray at the mosque and enjoy lovely food.

A visit to the SLAF Museum
My class visited the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Museum last month. This is the only museum in the country that shows the history of the SLAF. The things we saw included civil engineering exhibits, general exhibits, air craft engine model, the main hangar, the vehicle hangar, photo gallery, C130 theatre and the auditorium.
There was also a kiddies play area for us to enjoy. The cafeteria was not far away from the play area and it was a two storey log cabin serving snacks and refreshments. We visited the souvenir shop on our way out and I looked at all the unique items on display that cannot be bought anywhere else.
I learnt a lot about the history of our country and how the Air Force helps to keep us safe.

Wonders of Science
This is the age of Science today and it has changed our entire world. It is not the same world that our ancestors lived in. If they were to return today, may be they would not be able to recognize the place. Today we have electricity, telephones, TVs, medicines,
computers and the Internet, cars and airplanes etc., which will seem like wonders to someone from that age.
Science has made our lives comfortable and convenient in many ways. It has enabled us to save time in all aspects of our lives from
cooking to washing travelling and communicating etc. It has made the world smaller and more accessible to us. Science seems to have conquered time and distance.
It is because of Science that we are able to cope better with illness today. This has made our lives easier and increased our lifespan. In fact there is no area of modern life in which Science has not made an impact.
Almost everyday either new inventions are being reported or existing ones are being improved upon. They are being made faster, safer and even more efficient.

The best teacher I ever had
She is the best teacher I ever had. Her name is Ms. Lilani Munasinghe. She was in Louvre College for more than one year. She taught us English and Literature. She taught us very well. She was like a mother to us.
But, oh she left! I was shocked and heartbroken. She scolds us but it is only to correct us. There is no other teacher who can teach us like her.
She was my class teacher. She loved me and we call each other sometimes on the phone. I love her very much. May God Bless her!
