Rs. 300,000 monthly to light up Vihara Maha Devi park at night
An additional Rs. 100,000 is incurred to illuminate the newly renovated Vihara Maha Devi park, the Sunday Times was told. The 500 lamps which were set up all around the park at a cost of Rs. 80 million ( According to the Final Report for Model Zone Development of Town Hall Square), costs the Colombo Municipal Council Rs., 300,000 a month for electricity charges. Prior to the renovation of the park it cost Rs. 200, 000.
Mr. Dolapihilla, senior architect, of the Colombo Municipal Council told the Sunday Times halogen bulbs that lit up the park earlier were replaced with more than 500 LED and CFL bulbs in order to save energy. However he said, “The park electricity bill had previously cost Rs.200,000. Now with the addition of the new lamps, flood lighting and the water fountains it has risen to Rs. 300,000.”
