Three day chanting of Tripitaka at Audience Hall Kandy ends today
A three day chanting of the Third Stanza of the ‘Tripitaka’ by 108 members of the Sri Lankan Maha Sangha and five members each of the Maha Sangha of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Bangaladesh and Laos commenced on Friday morning at the Audience Hall in Kandy.
The welcome address was delivered by Ven. Dehideniye Sri Ratnasara Thera Nayake Thera of the Malwatte Maha Vihare
Addresses were also delivered by the Anunayake of Malwatte Ven. Rajakeya Panditha Niyangoda Vijithisiri Thera, Ven. Panditha Anamaduwe Dhammadassi Nayake Thera, who is also the Secretary of the Asgiri Maha Vihare.
MadamWangmo Dixey, Chief Executive of the Light of Buddhadhamma Foundation International also addressed the Maha Sangha who participated in this pirith chanting. Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekadwa and the Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Pradeep Dela also addressed the congregation and the laymen present.
The chanting of the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta which is the third segment of the Tripitaka commenced thereafter and is to be continued till today. Today the chanting will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Certificates of participation will also be presented in the afternoon.
This is the second time that this chanting is being held in the shadow of the Sri Dalada Maligawa at the Audience Hall. This is the third chanting in the country, the first having been at Anuradhapura.
The chanting of the Tripitaka first began with 200 members of the Maha Sangha in India.
