Archana Lokuge, Praveen Steele excels at Kandy GC Tennis
Archana Lokuge and Praveen Steele excelled to clinch double titles at the Kandy Garden Club All-Island Open Ranking ‘C’ Grade Tennis Tournament, which concluded last Friday at the Garden Club Courts in Kandy. Praveen Steele, top seed in the Boys Under-14 category, was in top form to win both Under-14 Singles and Doubles titles.
He beat Ravindu Weerasingle 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 in a three setter in the Singles and then pairing with Nadun Senadeera overcame Harshana Abeyratne and Tharindu Dassanayake 9-1 in the Doubles

Archana Lokuge, third seed in the Boy’s Under-18 category, beat Amanda Gunawardane 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets to annex the Singles title and then partnered by Prasanna Athauda went on to beat Madura Hewamulla and Janitha Jayasinghe 6-1, 4-6, 10-7, in the Men’s Open Doubles to complete his double.
The tournament conductd by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association together with Kandy Garden Club saw over 150 players of either sex from Colombo, Bandarawela, Kandy Kurunegala and Matale taking part.
