Harsha Gallage and Jayampathi Bandara guided Dharmapala Panniptiya with a 102 runs opening wicket partnership against Ananda on day two in their Under-19 inter-school cricket encounter at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. Harsha was unbeaten on 82 which included nine boundaries while Jayampathi chipped with a 56 inclusive of eight boundaries and a six helping Dharmapala batting the second time to go into the lunch break with a score of 193 for 4.

The opening day’s play ended with Ananda taking a first inning lead having made 191 which came on the back of a knock of 54 after bowling out Dharmapala for a low score of 135 with Sandaken Pathirana, Isuru Gunasekara, Kasun Perera and Tharana Ravindu doing the damage. Prince of Wales was sitting pretty against Mahinda Galle on the second day after the lunch session in the match played at Moratuwa. They had Mahinda batting the second innings, struggling for survival with their score on 116 for 9.

The right and left arm spin combination of Jayanga Peiris and Shanuka Dulaj, who together shared seven wickets, were responsible in having the Mahinda batting in tatters. Jayanga who ended with a four-wicket haul in the first inning has so far bagged nine wickets while Shanuka who took five wickets in the first innings collected a match-bag of seven wickets. Shanuka also put in a fine batting performance on the first day when he cracked 79 which laid the foundation for Prince of Wales to take a first inning lead. Prince of Wales resuming on their overnight score of 157 for 5 went on to make 212 in reply to Mahinda’s 208.
