Sunsilk Hair Academy holds ‘Great Gatsby’ themed graduation
The annual graduation ceremony of the Ramani Fernando- Sunsilk Hair Aacademy, the ninth of its kind took place earlier this month at the Kingsbury Hotel. This year’s theme was ‘the Great Gatsby’.
Over 100 soon-to-be hair stylists and beauticians presented their final project of dressing models. 18 out of these 100 students were scholarship owners. There were diploma certificates given in both Hair dressing as well as Beauty therapy to students from both the Kandy and Colombo Academies. Ushani Kalpani Nayanathara was recognised as the best Sunsilk student of the year, receiving Rs 50,000 to help set up her own salon.
From the Colombo centre for the Diploma in Hairdressing, the Batch 01 winner was S.W. Deepa Shamalee Dilrukshi, Batch 02 was Deepali Imalka Gunasekara, Batch 03 was K. E. Devina Fernando, Batch 04 was Ashana Dedigama Perera, and from the Kandy centre, the Batch 01 winner was B.A. Nadeeka Dilrukshi and Batch 02 was Thakshila Dilhani Wicramasinghe
In the Beauty Therapy course, the Winners from the Colombo centre were: Batch 01 – Shanie Niluofer Ann De Mel, Batch 02 – Summaiya Zaheen, Batch 03 – Krishanthie Nagalingam, Batch 04 – Ruwani Haradasa and from the Kandy centre Batch 01 – W.M.P.Thakshila Dilhani.
The event also showcased a collection of Asslam Hussein of Gee Bees. Nashali Fernando’s soulful 
solo performance of ‘Young and Beautiful’ by Lana Del Ray opened the stage for the Gatsby segment. Another student Naory Samarasinghe performed a Latin American dance with her partner Charitha de Silva for which she had won the Gold medal at an Asian Competition. The students of the Dance Works Institute added a seasonal atmosphere to the event with their performance.
