Young engineer in fatal high speed crash
View(s):A youth died when his racing car crashed onto an electric post near Nawala Road on Monday night, a coroner’s court inquiry was told this week.
The deceased, Sasindra Roshan Malawararachchi, (25), an engineer from Lake Road, Borelesgamuwa, was on his way to Thalawathugoda with a neighbour, when the accident took place.
“The person who died was my eldest son. On this particular day, he was going to see a friend in Thalawathugoda, who was going to Melbourne for employment,” his father Ananda Thilakasiri (52) told the inquiry.
Police reported that the engineer’s car had skidded on applying brakes and crashed onto an electric post. It also hit a parapet wall and then a gate, severely damaging the wall and the gate. He and his neighbour were immediately rushed to the Colombo National Hospital.
Roshan was pronounced dead at midnight due to severe injuries, while his neighbour is being treated at the ICU.
The postmortem inquiry conducted by National Hospital JMO Dr. S. Pranavan stated that death was caused by lung laceration and damage to chest and backbone sustained by motor vehicle collision.
Inquirer into Sudden Death, Ashroff Rumi gave an open verdict to the death and ordered the injured survivor to give evidence before the Coroner’s Courts on February 18.
