Trinity continued their winning spree when they recorded two more outright victories with back to back wins against Bandaranayake MMV Gampaha and Dharmapala College Pannipitiya which they achieved with a space of seven days.

The two wins also saw them recording their fourth successive win with the first two being achieved inside four days and this was two of the 15 outright wins to be recorded in eight days of action.

The other outright wins were recorded by D.S.Senanayake College, Mahinda Galle, St. Anne’s Kurunegala, Maliyadeva Kurunegala, Isipathana, St. Sebastian’s, Kegalu Vidyalaya, St. John’s Panadura, Anuradhapura Central, St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya, St. Anthony’s Wattala, St. Joseph’s Wattala, St. Mary’s Kegalle and St. John’s Jaffna.

They recorded wins over Prince of Wales, Maliyadeva, St. Xavier’s Marawila, Revatha MMV Balapitiya, St. Aloysius Galle, Thurstan, Karandeniya Central, Asoka MV, Devapathiraja MMV Rathgama, St. Mary’s Kegalle, Piliyandala Central, Senarath Paranavithana NS, St. Thomas Matale and Canagaratnam MV.

Seventeen-year-old Sri Lanka youth and right arm spinner Raveen Sayer had another field day when he bagged 14 more wickets in Trinity’s two outright wins and following his 21 wickets in the two matches before that brought his tally of wickets to 35 in his sides four wins.

Sayer in the match against Bandaranayake MV had a five wicket haul and he followed it up with another fiver in the first inning of Dharmapala and four in the second innings to end up with a match bag of 9 for 60 against Dharmapala.

Prince of Wales who recorded an outright win against Mahinda two weeks ago saw the result against D.S.Senanayake being reversed when they were beaten outright by DSS by nine wickets.

The Cambrians batting failed in both the innings as they were shot out for 83 in the first inning to which DSS replied with 208. Cambrians batting the second time put in another poor batting performance even though they fared better than the first inning. They were only able to avoid an innings defeat as they succumbed to the left and right arm spin combination of Raveen de Silva and Osura Bulathsinhala being bowled out for 134. The target they set for DSS was too easy which was just ten runs which ensured DSS their first outright win of the season.

In contrast Mahinda after their defeat to Prince of Wales came back to record an easy eight wickets win over Maliyadeva. The foundation for their win was laid by Dulash Udayanga who made an unbeaten 103 helping Mahinda make a formidable score of 289 for 9 declared in reply to the Devans 177.

Maliyadeva batting the second time with a deficit of 112 runs was able to manage only 120 .Here again Mahinda had to make only ten runs for victory which they did in two overs.

St. Anne’s Kurunegala coasted to a convincing innings and 57 runs win over over St. Xavier’s Marawila. The architects of their win were bowlers Mohamed Afzal and Yohan Kalhara who together shared 14 of the 20 wickets of the Xavierites to bowl them for scores of 78 and 103 in reply to the Annites score of 238.

Isipathana outclassed St. Aloysius Galle by an innings and 22 runs. The win was something special as only 43 overs of play was possible on the first day and their bowlers Kelum Bastiansz, Torry Thabrew and Avinda Soyza combined to steer them to victory. Maliyadeva too after their defeat to Mahinda saw the winning post when they turned the tables against Revatha MMV Balapitiya to record a six runs win. Revatha MMV had taken a comfortable 55 runs lead on the innings on day one.

But Maliyadeva struck back on the second day with the aid of Chandima Bandara, Keshan Wijeratne and Kusal de Silva to skittle out Revatha MMV for a low score of 118. The Devans chasing 174 for victory needed just 29.4 overs to reach the target thanks to Sachintha Peiris who made a knock of 60.

St. Sebastian’s recorded a morale boosting nine wickets win over Thurstan in a low scoring affair. The Thurstanites batting was in tatters as they succumbed to scores of 106 and 113 while the Sebs made 150 and reached the target of 70 runs in 12 overs.

In the Jaffna peninsula a combined effort in the batting and bowling departments by Sebamalapillai Fleming, Santhirakumar Thuvaragan and Raviendran Lohathieswari saw St. John’s Jaffna record a massive innings and 207 runs win over Canagaratnam MV.It was left hand batsman Fleming who laid the foundation with a quick fire unbeaten 111 ball knock o113 while Thuvaragan and Lohathieswari did the finishing touches with the bowling to guide the Johnians to victory.

The right and left arm spin combination of Shamsul Muneer and Ashan Rukmal helped St. Anthny’s Wattala to coast to an innings and116 runs over Piliyandala Central. The two bowlers shared 17 wickets between them with Shamsul ending with a match bag of 9 for 58 and Ashan 8 for 67 enabling the Antonians to bundle out their opponents for scores of 101 and 78 in reply to the Antonians score of 295.
