Germany’s G Data to offer more secure AV service to SL
View(s):A new entrant in the highly saturated Sri Lankan antivirus (AV) space, G Data, is promoting its German roots as its key competitive advantage, claiming that since it is 100 per cent developed within Germany, which is known for its strict privacy laws, itis more secure than other AV providers, particularly US-based AV companies which it claims informs that country’s government intelligence agencies.
Speaking to the Business Times on the sidelines of the launch of G Data Internet Security 2014, Anuradha Rajapakse, the Managing Director of Enoviz, G Data’s official retail partner for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, commented that his company was not looking to take on the leaders in the AV space, but rather offer a better service and slowly build distribution, etc. He also noted that it was his company’s philosophy to not always go for market leadership but, instead, serve the market better.
Additionally, Mr. Rajapakse also indicated that the reason his company wanted to launch G Data in Sri Lanka was because it, as a IT consumer, had had many problems, which were also similar to those experienced by a number of other consumers, when it came to using the products of the bigger local dominant AV players. As a result, Enoviz wanted to address these concerns with a higher quality AV product, and signed up with G Data, which was one of the pioneers of the AV space when it launched in 1985.
Further, Mr. Rajapakse added that online banking by consumers and Wi-Fi security were just two important areas of growing importance that were best addressed by using G Data Internet Security 2014.
