NVQ certificate awarding ceremony at AYS Gnanam Construction Training Academy
View(s):Tokyo Cement recently concluded the second consecutive National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Certificate Awarding ceremony at the AYS Gnanam Construction Training Academy, Dambulla for 121 Construction Craftsmen (Masonry).
This was based on the results of tests conducted by the National Apprentices & Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), the company said.
The academy is accredited by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) and affiliated with NAITA, and engaged in conducting training programmes to develop skills of masons already in service, targeting Government Accredited Vocational Qualification to identify their trade identity and competency.
It is also open to school leavers looking for a lucrative career in the construction industry. The prospective candidates are trained under the competency based training programme accredited by the TVEC, providing them with the required theoretical and practical training.
Dedicated to the memory of Tokyo Cement Group founder Chairman, the late A.Y.S. Gnanam, the academy is equipped with a dormitory for 50 residential trainees, lecture hall with multimedia facilities, fully fledged laboratory and a workshop for practicals. Trainees are provided with building materials, tools, stationary and food totally free of charge during their training.
