Lands Ministry faults DS for failure to evict encroacher
View(s):The Ministry of Lands and Land Development is to lodge a complaint with the Public Administration Ministry over the failure of a Divisional Secretary in Kilinochchi to implement a directive from the Ministry regarding the issue of a permit to use a State land.
Additional Secretary (Land) S.D.A.B. Boralessa who issued the directive told the Sunday Times that he will be taking up the matter nwith the Ministry of Public Administration over the failure to implement his Ministry’s order.
Mr. Boralessa had ordered the Divisional Secretary of Karachchi, Kilinochchi to evict an encroacher and grant a permit to the original permit holder of the land to occupy it. The land extent is about one acre.
The order was issued following an inquiry conducted by the Ministry’s Senior Assistant Secretary Ms. Thanuja Murugesan over a complaint that a permit to occupy a plot of land in the area had been issued to another person during the period of the conflict.
The permit had been issued during the period despite an order not to issue permits to lands which have been abandoned during the conflict.
Earlier a person calling himself a Presidential co-ordinator had visited the Kilinochchi District Secretary Rupavathi Kethishwaran and attempted to seek a ruling in favour of a person who was illegally occupying the land.
However, Ms Kethishwaran protested over the move and lodged a complaint with the Public Administration Minister John Seneviratne, alleging interference by a presidential co-ordinator.
