SimCentric thrashes WNS before Mercantile draw
View(s):SimCentric, who are about to make their debut in the Mercantile Cricket Association tournament, geared up with an emphatic win by 42 runs against WNS in a friendly warm-up cricket encounter. The match was played at the Asoka Vidyalaya ground in Kotte last Saturday.
The WNS bowling attack was too much for SimCentric whose batting lineup was ripped apart before they could make an impact. But the middle-order batted sensibly to held SimCentric recover.
Uditha Rajasekara hit a well composed knock of 86 to spearhead the eventual winner’s recovery and he was well assisted by Susantha Andrari and Nishantha Hunukumbura, who batted patiently to hit 42 and 23 respectively. These contributions guided SimCentric to post 214 runs in 29.1 overs.
Chasing a target which seemed comfortable, initially WNS attacked fiercely to dominate the proceedings. But the moment they lost their first wicket, at 28 in the sixth over, WNS’s collapse commenced. Janaka Abeytunga and Pavithre Chammika spearheaded the SimCentric counterattack and ended up with figures of 3 for 29 and 3 for 33 respectively. Uditha Rajasekara returned to claim two vital wickets, in a performance deserving to be named him as the player of the match as Chathuranga Vidanaarachchi and Chanuka Gomes helped SimCentric put the finishing touches by claiming a wicket each.
These efforts thwarted a comeback attack made by WNS who showed an intention to clinch the game in the midway with some pinch-hitting shots. WNS middle-order batsman Nuwan’s reviving knock of 36 was not sufficient to hold back SimCentric bowling attack as they were shot out for 172 in the 25th over.
