Film critic and writer Ajith Galappaththi released his latest book ‘Hathalis Hathe B. A. W. Cinema Meheyuma’ (B.A.W.’s cinema operation in 1947) was launched in parallel to the 67th anniversary of Sri Lankan cinema and 42nd anniversary of the National Film Corporation.

The book discusses the extensive service rendered by B. A. W. Jayamanna as an actor and forming Sri Lankan cinema as a script and screenplay writer. The first Sri Lankan film ‘Kadawunu Poronduwa’ (Broken Promise) was made based on his stage production made in 1940 under the same title.

The book also analyses ten theatrical productions made by Mr. Jayamanne for Minerva theatre group from 1930 to 1940. It further narrates the historical journey made by the film crew to India to produce the film.  The special guests at the book launch were veteran filmmaker and award winning editress Sumithra Peries and actor Ravindra Randeniya.
