Boosting investment opportunities in southern Sri Lanka thro’ its first, trade show
An international trade exhibition in southern Sri Lanka would help expand trade and investment opportunities to the regions, says Imran Hassan, Managing Director of CDC Events and Travels (PVT) LTD.
Speaking to the Business Times on the sidelines of the launch of the Southern International Trade Exhibition (SITE) 2014 at the BMICH on Wednesday, he said, “While the country is experiencing vast infrastructure development, investment opportunities and trade exhibitions needs to be conducted around the country to educate the public”.
He said the Matara district being the pivotal point for Galle and Hambantota, makes it a convenient location for the people in the south to visit the exhibition. SITE 2014 is set to broaden the horizons and provide an opportunity to all stakeholders to explore and expand on the amazing potential that south possesses, he added.
The exhibition is the first of its kind to be held in the south of the country and is scheduled to take place on May 3-5 this year at the Sanath Jayasuriya Stadium in Matara.
The exhibition comes in the wake of massive infrastructure development projects combined with a resurgence in many industries which have been a vibrant part of the southern economy.
CDC Events together with the Matara District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MDCCI) is organising the exhibition to enable businessmen, investors, industry leaders, consumers and all other stake holders to meet and share common interests.
Parallel to the exhibition is an investor forum targeting foreign and expatriate investors to project the south as one of the best destinations for investment with a very conducive environment.
The exhibition will also witness industry specific forums targeting the many diverse industries that exist in the south together with a port forum in order to showcase the centrality of Galle and Hambantota as sea ports and to project Hambantota as the maritime hub of South East Asia.
