Hilton stays open; changes earlier plan
View(s):Hilton Colombo didn’t close, as planned at the end of 2013, and would stay open while undergoing renovations on a phased out basis set to commence shortly, hotel officials said.
Last year the five star property in a public announcement stated that “in keeping with our commitment to deliver quality hospitality experiences to guests in Colombo, Hilton Colombo will be closed for renovations from December 1, 2013 until December 2014.”
Officials said the plan for total closure of the hotel was changed as it would have resulted in over 600 employees being idle and a revenue loss as well. As a result the management opted to continue its hospitality operations.
In this regard, the property continues to cater to visitors to Colombo while plans for renovation would be carried out in the future during the course of this year on phase by phase basis.
