Sri Lanka’s 66th Independence Day celebration

View(s):

Sri Lanka got its Independence on February 4, 1948. Independence Day is celebrated on a grand scale every year. This year we will celebrate the 66th Independence Day. The Sri Lankan flag will be hoisted in all government buildings. Foreign dignitaries, ambassadors, members of parliament and distinguished guests are all invited to be present at the opening ceremony. Next is the arrival of the honourable ministers and their families.

The arrival of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the  First Lady is the moment everybody is waiting for. School children take part in singing the Jaya Mangala Gatha and the National Anthem.  A twenty one gun salute follows, and everybody waits to watch the parade of the drummers and Kandyan dancers and the cultural dance items.

Finally the Air Force has a display of parachutes landing and this celebration ends with everyone leaving with happy memories.
