Mubarak slams career best 222 as NCC set for the kill
Jehan Mubarak slammed a swashbuckling career best knock of 222 not out as NCC was set for the kill against Badureliya SC when play ended on day two in the Premier league cricket encounter played at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona.
Mubarak who was unbeaten of 179 on day one added a further 43 runs while stroking seven more boundaries on day two to end with 32 boundaries in his innings helping NCC resuming on their overnight score of 406 for 4 make 513 for 5 declared.
Mubarak was also involved in two fruitful partnerships first of 272 runs for the third wicket with Pawan Wickramasinghe who made 122 and the other of 107 runs for the fifth wicket with Farveez Maharoof who chipped in with half a ton.
Later in the day the NCC bowlers made Badureliya SC struggle for their runs. The home team at one stage was badly placed on 68 for 5 but some resistance put in by Andy Solomons who made a calypso style knock of 71 in only 29 balls which comprised eight boundaries and five sixes helped them make a score of 174.
Badureliya SC made to follow on with a massive deficit of 339 runs fared no better and was reeling on 95 for 7 and are now left with the daunting task of erasing a further 244 runs to avoid an innings defeat when play resumes today.
Skipper Tharanga Paranavithana and Thilina Kandamby was associated in a massive partnership of 292 runs for the fourth wicket helping SSC amass 543 for 7 declared against Bloomfield in the match played at the SSC ground.
Tharanga made a 151 with 20 boundaries and two sixes while Thilina cracked 165 which included 21 boundaries and three sixes. In reply Bloomfield ended the day on 171 for 4.
Moors SC have already obtained a first inning lead over Colts in the match played at Braybrooke Place. Moors in reply to Colts score of 198 resuming on their overnight score of 121 for 2 made 378 with Harsha Cooray making a top score of 111 and left arm spinner Sachith Pathirana grabbing the five wickets for Colts.
Panadura SC shocked fancied Ragama CC as they too took a slender first inning lead in the match played at the Panadura Esplanade. Panadura SC after restricting the visitors to a score of 210 went on to make 231.
Army SC too have taken a first inning lead against Air Force SC when played stopped on day two in the match played at Panagoda. Army resuming from their overnight score of 63 for 2 went on to make 295 in reply to the Airmen’s 251.
Tamil Union after struggling in the morning session managed to secure a slender first inning lead over Chilaw Marians in the match played at P. Sara Stadium.
