Lecture on Italian contemporary design
View(s):Prof. Arch. Luca Molinari will deliver a lecture on ‘Design as an Italian phenomenon’ on February 21 at 5 p.m. at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute
The idea of “good design” has been part of the Italian identity , says Prof. Molinari who will focus on a critical interpretation of the Italian post war, alternative phenomenon compared to the other international contexts, moving from the industrial mechanisation of the traditional design to the contemporary scene linking together industrial design, fashion, graphic design and architecture.
“Today we are facing a new phase of evolution of the Italian creative panorama which deals with the radical effects of the economic crises as well as with a cultural, generational shift,” he says. The lecture will focus on the most significant stylistic and cultural twists in the last decades as well as on a series of key characters which will allow the audience to understand and appreciate the nature and complexity of Italian contemporary design.
Prof. Molinari has been awarded the “Ernesto N. Rogers Prize” (2006) by the X Venice Biennale of Architecture and the UIA Jean Tschumi Prize for architectural criticism (2008).
