The Wildlife and Nature Protection Society’s (WNPS) next monthly lecture will be delivered by Anouk Ilangakoon on ‘Whales and Dophins in Sri Lanka: From obscurity to fame and emerging threats’. The lecture will be on Thursday, February 20 at 6.15 p.m. at the Department of Metereology auditorium, 383, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 (opposite BMICH). Entrance is free.

Anouk Ilangakoon has studied cetaceans in the waters around Sri Lanka since 1985 and her Master’s of Science degree thesis was on species diversity and threats to small cetaceans in Sri Lanka. Subsequently she authored the first guidebook on the whales and dolphins of Sri Lanka and has published over 50 scientific papers in international scientific journals.

She is a member of the Cetacean Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission and member of the Convention on Migratory Species Scientific Council’s Aquatic Mammals Working Group.
