The famous Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb motor rally will take place at the picturesque Browns Hill in Matara with top drivers in action next Saturday. One of the few well known hill climbs in Sri Lanka and a flagship event of Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC), who organises this event under the affiliation of Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), will be held on a stretch of 700metres.

This year the hill climb will be conducted for the 18th year. The track, which includes a number of winding narrow stretches, is the trail to the residence of the District Secretary of Matara. The event will begin at 9.00am and the organisers will begin scrutinising the competing vehicles from 7.30am.

Known as the only outstation club, unremittingly affiliated to SLAS since its inception in 1997, the SMSC have made plans to organise this event to perfection. The track preparation, safety standards, time keeping, vehicle recovery processes, competitor relations are expected to be organised to highest standards.

The Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb is held in a unique tract, with four extremely tricky and challenging corners; the Single Tree, Southern, Residency and Tower corners, the conquering of which, requires high driving skills and perfect man-machine combination. This is the very reason for all well known drivers in the country taking part in this event. The hill climb will include 24 motor car events and 10 motor cycle events.
