For fresh graduates who enter the corporate world, their biggest challenge is to find the best career. Do the requirements of the employer meet the skills and competencies of today’s fresher graduates? The 18th ‘Are You Ready?’ career fair organised by the Rotaract Club of the University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the University Career Guidance Unit was held recently. The career fair comprised five sessions and a flagship day programme. The career fair kick- started with the CV clinic, a workshop to sharpen resume writing skills. The Engineers’ Forum, a panel discussion was held with leading engineering professionals in the country on the contemporary engineering practices and current trends in the industry.
The sessions -the Criterion focused on the development of soft skills essential for the industry and the session titled ‘YOUTM’ was about personal branding and building a professional network. The limelight event of the programme was the Flagship Day. Interview panels from over 60 reputed companies were present to interview the capable undergraduates of the University of Moratuwa.
The day was mutually rewarding as companies got the opportunity to recruit soon-to-be graduates while the undergraduates were able to improve themselves through personal feedback provided. The career fair ended with the Dining Etiquette and Grooming Workshop (DE & G) held at Hotel Galadari. The workshop included a four-course dinner tutorial and a session on professional grooming.
