Skeletal remains found in Udayarakaddu in Mullaitivu in the backyard of a house on Friday are to be sent for forensic examination, officials said yesterday.
The remains, said to be of nine persons, were found when the owner of the house was clearing the garden.Mullaitivu’s Acting Magistrate Thangarasa Paramasothi and Jaffna’s Judicial Medical officer Dr. Chinnaiya Sivaruban visited the scene where police found a national identity card during further excavation.

Meanwhile, the Army in a statement last night said ‘some interested parties’ were trying to link the Government and the security forces with the Mullaitivu skeletal remains. “There is no factual basis for such conclusions and we reject these false and misleading allegations,” the statement said. “It is deplorable that such premature conclusions are drawn without allowing the investigations to proceed without hindrance. Such assertions are misleading the local public as well as the international community,” the statement added.
