No semi-final in Kandy
President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) Asanga Seneviratne has responded to Kandy SC’s request to host the knock-out semi-final encounter in Kandy. Originally the SLRFU decided to host the quarter-final in Nawalapitiya and changed to Pallekelle after Kandy SCs request.
Further Kandy SC president Dr Sarath Kapuwatte wrote back requesting for the Semi-final of the Kandy game to be hosted in a Kandy ground. Since earlier SLRFU agreement was to host one years final in Colombo and the other year in Kandy.
Seneviratne replying the letter said that the government had spent more than 700 M on the new venue at the Race Course and it will be an ideal opportunity for the players to have a taste of the ground since next month the Asian Five nations tournament will kick off which will see Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Philippines locking horns along with Sri Lanka.
Asanga also agreed that the next year’s tournament will see that all the matches worked off in Kandy at a Neutral venue.
Kandy will meet Havelocks on March 5 at the Race course in the second semi-final. The first semi-final will see Navy SC taking on Up Country SC on March 4
Final will take place at the same venue on March 9.
