Chinese auto major Chery partners Ideal group to form Ideal Chery in Sri Lanka
View(s):China’s one of the largest car manufacturers Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. has partnered with Ideal Group to form Ideal Chery Automobiles (Pvt) Ltd as its franchise holder and distribution partner in Sri Lanka, a company official said.
Ideal Chery’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chamath Tennekoon told the Business Times that they pursued Chery after closely following the company’s progress in the global arena, developing their own technology in CVT Transmissions, Variable Valve Timing (VVT), Common Rail Fuel Injection, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and many other technologies.
Chery is also the manufacturing partner for Jaguar and Land Rover in China – which stands to benefit the Chery brand by way of hi-tech input, he said, adding that the quality of all the models selected for the Sri Lankan market is very impressive and unique.
Ideal Chery will soon introduce three new models to the Sri Lankan market and re-launch the world renowned QQ 2014 model.
The new models include the Chery TIGGO SUV in 1.6L Gasoline CVT (Automatic Transmission) configuration, which is incidentally the same model configuration exported to Australia, Chery FULWIN 2 1.5L Sedan Car and Chery YOYO Medium Van.
Chery Heavy Industries is a leading manufacturer of Road Construction Machinery such as Excavators, Backhoe Loaders, Motor Graders and Road Rollers in China, which will also be represented by Ideal Chery in Sri Lanka, he said.
This firm is also part of the elite group of industrial robot manufacturers particularly specialising manufacturing robots for the auto industry.
The Chery launch is slated for later this month with the opening of the new showroom in Union Place and the Main Service and Repair facility at 75, Kadawala Road, Ratmalana.
Ideal Chery will also simultaneously sell, provide full spare parts availability and service and repair through the island-wide network of Ideal Regional Repair Centres (Ideal RRCs), he added.
