Cyber Concepts helps to launch online coconut auction
View(s):Cyber Concepts, one of Sri Lanka’s leading software and web solution companies, is partnering with the Coconut Development Authority (CDA) to develop a technologically-advanced coconut auction system in Sri Lanka.
Introducing e-marketing concepts is an idea put forward by Jagath Pushpakumara, Minister of Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development and implementing this proposal was delegated to the Coconut Development Authority by Nihal Somaweera, Secretary of Ministry of Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development, a media release from Cyber Concepts said.

Putting CDA’s coconut auctions online, the team at Cyber Concepts is to develop an Internet-based Coconut Auctioning System with the key aim of making current operations coconut auctions of the country more efficient and productive.
Cyber Concept believes that the new system will create a strong platform for buyers, sellers and brokers who are participating in coconut auctions and also for CDA officials, the release said.
“The core of the system is being designed under three phases which are catalogue submission, auctioning process and post bidding. Cyber Concepts is in the process of designing these phases in a way that stakeholders participating at an auction can easily access any information, submit and view catalogues, effect payments both online and offline and analyse trends of coconut prices and sale via graphical representations and many more. They are also hoping to embed this system into an easily-accessible Android mobile app for quick and easy obtaining of information on an ongoing auction and other similar activities,” it said.
Commenting on the initiative, Managing Director of Cyber Concepts Ravi Rajapathirane said, “Cyber Concepts is renowned in the country for developing inventive solutions. When the Coconut Development Authority was calling for tenders we really wanted to win it and implement an innovative smart solution for the coconut auctioning in Sri Lanka. We had many discussions with CDA officials to understand how the current live auctioning structure works, had different requirement gatherings and now the team at Cyber Concepts is working hard to bring the Internet-based Coconut Auctioning System to the fore where it will create a robust platform for all the parties who are involved in this process to make live coconut auctioning more consistent, reliable and bring much more value to the country.”
Coconut Development Authority Chairman, Aruna Gunawardena said, “As the Government body that is responsible for the development of the coconut industry in the country and live coconut auctioning being an important aspect of the CDA; we selected Cyber Concepts to come up with a state-of-the-art solution. I truly believe this solution is a turning point in coconut trading where Cyber Concept’s solution would give easy and quick access to data from anywhere in the world to buyers, sellers, brokers and CDA officials; reducing costs, generating more revenue and making one of the key elements of activities of the CDA in servicing the coconut industry.
With the implementation of this solution, Cyber Concepts believes that live coconut auctioning of the country would be transparent and fill many loopholes in the current process, assuring no frauds. That will also ensure more economic value to the process and helps to generate more profits to the Coconut Development Authority, the release said.
