Exam Time
Exams make us all scared.
My school has unit tests every couple of  weeks. I find them very
easy but when it is time for the mid-year exam,  term-end examinations or the promotion exam, I get very nervous.
My mother says that if I revise the work I have learnt in school the same day, I don’t have to get scared because I will be prepared. I try to follow her advice as much as I can and I think that you should too.

A computer speaks
I was born many years ago. At that time I was very famous. I could do millions of work. But now we all are the same and very cheap.
I am very useful for
companies, shops and for school children. I am used in houses too. Some children make the correct use of my knowledge while the others misuse me.
I like to talk about my friends the CPU, Mouse and Keyboard. They help me a lot in my work.
And they are really great friends. By my description
I think that you would know who I am.

The person I admire the most
The person I admire the most is my father. What I admire the most in him are his noble and humble qualities. He has been working abroad in Bangladesh. When he comes to visit us, he stays for only a very short period of five days. He keeps one day fully, to visit all holy churches. Every night he prays for us more than for himself. The main thing

I admire in him is his special talent of never giving up.As he is mentally, socially and spiritually fit, he is fit physically too.
He has a tall and a very strong body, broad shoulders and a very cheerful face. He helps the poor in all ways
he can. I too will strive to live a life just like him. A simple but humble and hardworking life.

Rainforests
What are rainforests? Rainforests are vast areas that are covered by trees. Here you can find thousands of species of plants, trees, animals, insects and birds.
The rainforests are the most bio-diverse and earth’s richest eco-system. They cover 7% of the earth’s land. The largest rainforest is the Amazon rainforest in South America. There are rainforests in Indonesia and Africa. The plants and trees of the rainforest form four layers; the emergent, canopy, under canopy and the shrub layer.

But why are we destroying them? They provide us with timber for furniture, tasty fruits and sunshine. Thousands of medical drugs and cancer drugs are made from the rainforest plants. The outcome of destroying the rainforests can be very dangerous. Global warming takes place and the sea level rises, temperature increases and the ice melts. When trees are burnt, carbon dioxide is produced.

So, from now onwards let us protect trees. There is a famous proverb, “If you cut a tree, plant two trees instead in its place”.

Handloom
I went on a trip,
To a handloom factory.
I saw many things,
In the handloom factory.
I saw many handloom toys,
And some handloom hats,
And most of all,
I like the
handloom cats.
There were so many clothes,
Such as saris
And some frocks
which we wear for parties.
There’s so much to see,
In the handloom factory.
I hope you will go and see,
The handloom factory.

If I were the President
If I were the President of Sri Lanka,
I would do many things. First I would build a big house with a swimming pool. And I would live there with all my family members.
I would swim in the swimming pool daily. And I would train my little brother how to swim.
Not only that, I would give many gifts to all the children on their birthdays. Then they would be so happy. The parents also would be happy. Then they would elect me as President of Sri Lanka next time also.
Then I would develop the country well.
I would carpet all the roads in Sri Lanka.
Then the people would go on roads very
happily and quickly. And I would do everything to make the people happier and happier.

Adam’s Peak
Adam’s Peak is one of the famous peaks in Sri Lanka. Adam’s Peak season starts in December to April. Who are the people
coming to Adam’s Peak? They all were  coming to worship the god. There are more steps. For Adam’s Peak there is another name called ‘Sripada’.
Adam’s Peak is a cold area. In Sri Lanka it is an important and famous peak. I am very proud because Adam’s Peak is near to our town. In the morning I get up and first I open my door to see Adam’s peak, and if I see it I feel peaceful. In Sri Lanka people should come to this place.

My village
My village is Pallegoda. It is a remote village in the Kalutara District. It is small but clean. There are many nice places in my village. There is a beautiful river
flowing around the village. There are lots of paddyfields and tea estates. More than 2,000 people live there. They live in peace. Every evening we play in the village
playground. I love to live in my village.

A bygone era
A white pearl, untouched with its corrugated domicile,

Goldfish, roaming the waters of an azure sea,
Trees swaying to the
zephyrs, upon a blessed isle,
Alas! Today, such sights are only illusory.

A blossoming flower upon a mighty evergreen,
Jade mountains capped with snow,
A cerulean river,
unblemished and clean,
Alas! Such sights are no more.

Daffodils dancing to the serene breeze,
The summery aroma of pine,
Fertile lands, galore with trees,
Alas! They were, but once upon a time.

My pet rabbits
On my birthday, father gifted me two rabbits. I was very happy. That is the day I touched a rabbit for the first time in my life. I thanked my father very much. I put them in a cardboard box.

Next day, my mother made milk and gave them. But they did not drink it. They smelled at it and hopped to the garden. My father bought kankun leaves.
When father put it down, they ran and ate it in five minutes.

They grew up within a few days. One rabbit got seven baby rabbits. They are very sweet and beautiful. They also grew up quickly. My pets are great. I love them very much.
