Celebrating women
Celebrating the month of women, a monthly film forum curated by filmmaker, cinema enthusiast, photographer and writer Anomaa Rajakaruna will be held at Goethe Institute, Colombo. It will focus on women with screening of cinematic creations centred on women’s issues. Asoka Handagama’s latest film ‘Ini Avan’ and a series of films made by both new and veteran directors will be showcased on March 22.
Held as two main sessions, the first session fill have a screening of short films on women which will be followed by a discussion. This will include films ‘Devi’ directed by Anuradha Kodagoda, ‘ Ehema novunu ehema dennek…’ by Ajantha Wijewardena and ‘Oranges’ made by reputed writer Sumathy Sivamohan. Discussion titled ‘Gender in Short Films: Women’s Perspectives’ will be moderated by Nadya Bhimani Perera and Anuradha Kodagoda, Ajantha Wijewardena, Waruni Anuruddhika and Nayani Sandya will be participating as panelists.
The second session from 2 pm to 5 pm will include screening of short films on Gender by Men. The screening will include ‘Have a nice day…’ by Kaushalya Pathirana, ‘Feminism of a kite’ by Nisal B. Guruge, ‘End of Misty Cloud’ by Viraj Liyanarachchi and ‘Being Aadya…’ by Hasitha Warnasuriya.
The discussion titled ‘Gender in Short Films: Men’s perspectives’ moderated by Amila Galappatty will follow the film screening and the panelists for the discussion are Kaushalya Pathirana, Muvindu Binoy, Nisal B. Guruge and Viraj Liyanarachchi.
At 5.30 pm reputed filmmaker Asoka Handagama’s latest film ‘Ini Avan’ (Him, here, after) with English subtitles will be screened.
