Shakespeare Centre teaches cinema
View(s):Shakespeare Centre Sri Lanka, one of the theatre education institutions specialising in Shakespearian productions is to start a drama and theatre courses for the year 2014-2015 and those interested are invited to apply. Those interested in cinema will be able to study the subject along with the production of the film ‘Hamlet’ which is a production by the Shakespeare Centre.
“The participants will be able to study about the history of cinema and the great contributors like Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurasowa, Sathyajith Ray, Rayner Chocker and Miloce Porman who directed the journey of world cinema,” Gamini De Silva, the president of Shakespeare Centre said. All the participants will be able to study the skills and the contribution of the above filmmakers towards cinema in depth and learn new philosophical insights, dramatic techniques and literature of the highest quality, he said.
All participants will be able to take part in pre- production, shootings and post-production on the film Hamlet which will be done in Sinhala and its theatrical version in Sinhala, Tamil stage drama “Othello” Sinhala and English stage plays, ‘Macbeth’ and an opera which will be done as part of the practical production.
