KMC officials, MCs face audit queries

An audit query dated February 17, 2014 has been sent by the Auditor General to two former Mayors, a Municipal Commissioner, a Local Government Commissioner, the Legal Officer of the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) and 21 coucillors, for the alleged loss of revenue to the KMC.

The audit query confines itself to the non-collection of funds due for the use of the Municipal Council car park and for monies due for use of road parking lots in Kandy.

The period covered is from December 8, 2005 to December 7, 2010. The query is directed to these officials querying why a sum of Rs.217,130,242.90 has not been collected as parking fees, by virtue of the agreements signed by the Council.

The audit query stipulates that 30 days’ notice has been allowed for written submissions and 14 days’ notice for oral submissions
The query states that if a proper explanation is not received, under the provisions of the KMC Ordinance a surcharge could be made on all concerned.
