Sailing with Land Rover
View(s):Jeremy Bolling had dreamed for many years of circumnavigating Sri Lanka in his GP14,2-crew sailboat that he races competitively at the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club (CMYC – www.cmyc.lk). His family gave their approval as peace reigned once more.
Jeremy’s SaiLanka adventure was rapidly put into action to beat the arrival of the monsoon for the 1,300km journey. Land Rover agreed to provide land and financial support for this ocean adventure and came in as the main sponsor making available vehicles on a daily basis and are also incorporating their own drive challenge from Kalpitiya to Dutch Bay.
Jeremy set sail with one of his core volunteer crew members from Galle on February 19 .
Land Rover will make their way overland to Dutch Bay on their own challenge, whilst Jeremy will continue his voyage, shadowed by his backup Land Rovers and a motorized support boat. The Sri Lankan Navy will be in constant communication and is standing by on the seaside.
The penultimate SaiLanka – Land Rover experience will be in Yala towards the end of March.
The final celebration is planned for Galle on April 5. Cantaloupe Aqua will host Jeremy and his team for an after party that will include a fashion show by Ajai Singh and Arugam Bay.
Jeremy’s non-profit making venture is aimed at showcasing and promoting sailing and watersports experiences in and around Sri Lanka on a local and international level. He is also encouraging donations to a local charity – The Educate Lanka Foundation (www.educatelanka.org) that strives to empower underprivileged students in Sri Lanka and therefore advance the country’s potential.
