Hansamal Perera shines in drawn game
St. Sylvester’s College opener Hansamal Perera, who made 158 runs ten days ago, produced another blockbuster by scoring an unbeaten 138 to ensure that his team gained a large lead over Vidyartha College in their drawn Big Match at the Pallekele Stadium yesterday. Perera was in his element during his 133-ball innings that contained 14 fours. Untroubled by both pace and spin, Perera showed that he is a batsman who is capable of the long haul.
Sivakumar Tyron, who bagged five wickets on the first day, came well with the bat too, making a neat 42. Ratnayake, Weerasinghe and Navaratne were among the wicket-takers for Vidyartha. Krishantha Jayasuriya batted elegantly for his 47 and Isuru Weerasinghe (35 not out) made his usual solid contribution when Vidyartha batted again.
