Hasindra spins St. Joseph’s to victory
Right arm spinner Hashindra Perera with a four wicket haul steered St. Joseph’s to an easy 91 runs victory over traditional rivals St. Peter’s in their 40th Battle of the Saints limited over encounter played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
Hashindra who ended with impressive figures of 4 for 22 ran through the late order batting of the Peterites after right arm pacie Fabian Fernando had made the early breakthrough to bundle the Peterites in quest of a target of 225 runs for just 133 runs.Earlier in the day
Josephian opener Duran de Alwis and Pathum Madusanka laid the foundation with the pair putting on a third wicket partnership of 98 runs after skipper Dylan Fernandopulle won the toss and elected to take first lease of the wicket.
The Josephians got off to an inauspicious start when they lost the wicket of skipper Dylan before they could get the scoreboard moving. Duran de Alwis and Sadeera Samarawickrama added 47 runs for the second wicket before they were separated before Duran associated himself with Pathum to add a valuable 98 runs for the third wicket.
The Josephians with this win extended their tally to 21 as against to the 17 by the Peterites with two matches being abandoned due to bad weather.
