Looking for a positive result in this encounter
The 8th annual Big Match between D.S. Senanayake College and Mahanama College will be held on March 21 and 22 at the P. Sara Stadium in Colombo. Although this encounter has not produced a result in favour of either school since its inception, it has never failed to provide the quality and intensity of any other big match.
As a result of their commitment to the sport both schools have been successful in producing many a junior and senior level national players in the recent years.
D.S. Senanayake with two outright wins in the ongoing season is led by Sri Lanka Under-19 cap, Binura Fernando. He is ably supported by fourth year coloursmen Harith Maduwantha and former captain Duleeka Brahmanage. The team also comprises of one of the leading run scorers of the tournament, Kaveen Bandara who has aggregated more than 700 runs inclusive of three solid centuries with an average of above 50. Sri Lanka Under-17 player Shifran Muthalif and third year coloursman Uvin Bandara have also contributed to the team’s success this season by scoring above 500 runs and capturing 20 over wickets.
Mahanama has equally been good this season by securing three outright wins against the likes of Bandaranayake, St. Anthony’s and Presidents colleges. Allrounder Nayana Prabath will give leadership to a side that has one of the strongest bowling line ups in the tournament this season with Dinuka Karunananda, Gihan Sanjeewa and Dulanjana Senevirathne being responsible for bagging a combination of 140 wickets.
With both teams securing outright wins leading up to the event, the 8th Battle of the Gold’s will be a hard fought encounter as many expect. Players and coaching staff from both camps are working hard ahead of the encounter to ensure their respective team’s success.
