Ramith eight as Tamil Union crush Moors
Right arm spinner Ramith Rambukwella’s eight wicket haul paved the way for Tamil Union to record a convincing innings and 45 run-win with a day to spare over Moors SC in the Premier Super Eight encounter concluded at the NCC ground yesterday.
Ramith came into action when Moors SC batting the second time with a deficit of 306 runs was well placed on 168 for 2. Some rash batting by the Moors batsmen saw them lose the remaining eight wickets with the addition of only 93 runs with Ramith claiming six of these to end with a match bag of 12 for 123.
In fact it was a career best unbeaten knock of 239 by Rumesh Buddika that laid the foundation for Tamil Unions win. Rumesh whose knock came off 350 balls comprised 28 boundaries and two sixes enabling Tamil Union make a mammoth score of 521 in reply to Moors SC’s 215.
Manjula de Zoysa too made a career best knock of 204 which included 21 boundaries and five sixes as he sent the Ragama CC’s bowling on a leather hunt helping Army SC resuming on their overnight score of 237 for 3 to end day three with a mammoth score of 508 for 9.
SSC has already taken a first inning lead over CCC in the match played at the P. Sara Stadium. SSC resuming on their overnight score of 328 for 8 went on to make a score of 385 with overnight batsman Upul Bandara making a half ton.
SLPA CC have already conceded a first inning lead to NCC at Reid Avenue. NCC set a target of 279 runs was in deep trouble on 41 for 3 when play ended for the day.
