Skipper Sanjika puts St. Servatius in strong position
St Servatius skipper Sanjika Ridma has put his side in a strong position against traditional rivals St Thomas when play stopped on day two in their 114th Battle of the Blues big match at the Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara.
Sanjika was unbeaten on 57 in his side’s score of 117 for 3 on day one was unfortunate to miss out on a ton by five runs being dismissed for 95. He was supported by Ramesh Nimantha who made 48 helping them make a score of 269 for 9 declared.
The opening day’s play saw Sanjika along with Lochana Ruwin ruining the Thomian batting with the pair sharing nine wickets between them to bundle them out for a paltry 81. Sanjika ended with impressive figures of 5 for 21 and Lochana 4 for 20. St. Thomas’ batting for the second time with a deficit of 188 runs ended the day on 154 for 2 needing another 34 runs to make their opponents bat again when play begins on the final day today.
