Trinity and St. Anthony’s figure in fantastic tie
Trinity and St. Anthony’s played out a fantastic tie in the 34th Limited Over encounter for the Sir Richard Aluvihare Trophy. The match had its excitements, ups and downs, all the way through.
Winning the toss and batting, the Antonians made a modest 157. Skipper Nimesha Gunasinghe, who played a lovely innings (38) and Damith Panditharatne with a domineering 48 (the top score in the match) added a priceless 67 for the fourth wicket. Pulasthi Bandara made a stroke filled 26 at the top of the order.
Spinners Charith Sudarkar (3 for 29), Lakshan Jayasinghe (2 for 17) and Raveen Sayer (2 for 27) did the damage.
Trinity was 2 for 7 before small knocks from Jayasinghe, Chandragupta and Sayer helped them to 103 for 8. Naveen Ekanayake and Shavindu Amarasinghe helped Sudarkar to edge Trinity close to the winning post. But at the same total of 157,Sri Mahan was run out to produce a tied result.
