Court issues notices to TCK Board
The District Judge of Colombo issued notices on Colonel Gamini Kumara Ariyaratne, Principal of Trinity College, Kandy and other members of the Board of Governors to appear in Court on Friday over an action filed by a parent.
The parent had come before Court alleging that the present Principal of the College does not have the required qualification to hold such a position and that he has distorted the facts regarding his educational and professional qualifications.
Faiszer Mustapha P.C., Isuru Balapatabendi, Shantha Jayawardane, Pulasti Rupasinghe and Charaka Jayaratne appeared for the complainant.
The complainant states that in the application made in 2012 Colonel Ariyaratne. had stated he was a Brigadier in the Sri Lanka Army, had obtained a diploma in Human Resources Management from the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM), obtained a degree as a Bachelor of Technology (Civil Engineering) from the College of Military Engineering in Pune, India and had a Master of Technology (Civil Engineering) degree from the College of Military Engineering in Pune, India.
However, the plaintiff states, the Army had responded that the Principal was a ‘Colonel’ and not a ‘Brigadier’. The IPM has also has stated that he (the Principal) has not been awarded the diploma as he had failed to submit his dissertation. The complainant states that the Principal does not possess any degree as recognised in Sri Lanka and that Colonel Ariyaratne was sent to follow the course in India only because he was in the Army.
The plaintiff informs Court that there are members of the teaching staff, including a Vice Principal and one Co-Vice Principal who possess extensive years of teaching and administrative experience at Trinity College and are competent to discharge the duties of Principal until a suitable person is selected.
