A high powered ministerial delegation from Singapore will ceremonially open the refurbished youth section of the Jaffna Public Library on April 4 as part of a year-long capacity building project aimed at improving English language skills of Jaffna students. The event will also see the donation of a mobile library which will help provide easy access to reading material in English.
The project initiated by the Singapore International Foundation in partnership with the Jaffna Public Library is estimated to benefit over 3000 students between the ages of 10 -18 years. The renovated youth section along with the mobile library will have on offer 10,000 books, magazines and facilities for interactive language learning lessons.

The project which reflects the long-standing bilateral relations between Singapore and Sri Lanka hopes to help address the shortage of skilled English language teachers in the island and provide opportunities for students to communicate in English in their daily lives.
