SL ‘touches’ 450,000 in 2013 smartphones sales : Report
View(s):Smartphone sales in terms of units shipped to Sri Lanka “touched” 120,000 in the fourth quarter of 2013, and 450,000 cumulatively, over 2013, according to a report dated March 27, issued by CyberMedia Research.
Additionally, the publication also noted that “[during] 4Q 2013 Samsung emerged as the leader in the smartphones segment with a 21.2 per cent share followed by Huawei with 19.6 per cent and E-tel at third place with a 16.1 per cent shipments share”.
Elaborating further, it also stated; “The Sri Lanka market shows a strong growth in shipments of smartphones as against a decline in feature phone shipments. This is in keeping with the larger global trend and points to a maturing of consumer tastes and growing preference for a richer mobile usage experience. This is a positive sign for the long term health of the Sri Lanka Telecom Services market and is bound to lead to larger numbers of subscribers accessing the mobile internet and data services”.
The contents of the above-mentioned report were revealed in a recent statement released by mobile phone importer Brantel, in which it also claimed the Sri Lankan smartphone market’s third place position, in relation to its E-tel range of mobile phones.
Meanwhile, Brantel Chief Executive, Bishri Latiff, quoted in the company’s statement, commented, “Our increased emphasis on the smartphone segment with high-speed, fully-loaded handsets has clearly achieved the desired results… We are delighted at the success of our strategy of offering best-in-class smartphone features, speed and capacity, at unmatched prices and comprehensive after-sales service”.
