Dinesh guides STC to two semis
View(s):S. Thomas’ coach Dinesh Kumarasinghe has had a successful run since he took over coaching his alma mater for the second time recently. In the last two years he has turned the Thomian cricket team to a champion outfit.
In the ongoing Under 19 T20 and limited over tournaments Dinesh has had the honour of guiding the team to the semi finals in both the tournaments which is somewhat rare for a coach.
S. Thomas’ is scheduled to clash with St. Peter’s in the U19 T20 semi final at Bloomfield ground in Reid Avenue today and two days later (April the Thomians will confront Richmond in the limited over semi final for which the venue has not yet been confirmed.
Last year Dinesh guided the Under 17 side to clinch the limited over tournament which followed with the team being invited to participate at the annual Rajiv Gandhi memorial trophy tournament contested by seven countries where they emerged the champions. In fact the Thomians won the Under-17 title after a lapse of 14 years which was also under his guidance in 1999 and then he guided the Thomians to emerge Under-19 limited over champions three years later in 2002 and they are qualifying to the semi finals of the limited over tournament after a lapse of 12 years.
Added to that another feather in the cap for Dinesh was when the Thomians won the annual limited over Mustangs Trophy against traditional rivals Royal this year after a lapse of seven years.
The U19 T20 semi final against St. Peter’s is scheduled to be worked off from 1.00pm onwards but the prevailing weather will play crucial role. S. Thomas’ will be led by Madushan Ravichandrakumar and St. Peter’s by Kavinda de Tissera. – MSA
