Rain dominates drawn game at SSC
Rain dominated the proceedings on both days of the annual 51st big match between Thurstan and Isipathana which concluded at the SSC ground yesterday. The highlight of the drawn match was the half tons made by Thurstan’s Minhaj Jaleel, skipper Kavindu Kulasekera and Thimira Jayasinghe enabling the side taking first lease of the wicket make a modest score of 340 for 8 declared.
However Isipathana in their turn were made to struggle for their runs as apart from a second wicket stand of 51 between Sachin Jayasuriya and Diluka Shehan the others failed to make any impression.
They were struggling on 92 for 5 at the lunch break, they were rescued by a 53 runs stand for the sixth wicket between Kelum Bastiansz and Dhanura Deelaka to reach 136 for 6 at the tea break but unfortunately no play was possible beyond that due to bad light.
In whole the two days of play saw only 122 overs of play possible as the first day’s proceedings was called off after 55 overs due to bad weather.
