Dialog Star Points donated millions to HelpAge since 2011
View(s):Customers of dominant Sri Lankan celco Dialog have, since 2011, donated millions of rupees worth of loyalty points to charity HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL), which resulted in over 20 mobile medical and eye camps and 2,659 senior citizens being helped in 2013 alone.
According to a statement; “The money obtained from Dialog star points is utilised to perform Cataract Surgeries and also to conduct Medical and Eye Care Camps for the needy segment of Sri Lankan elderly population over 55 years. All medical and eye care ervices including cataract operations are carried out by HelpAge at no cost to those who are benefitted.
HASL conducts about 25 mobile medical and eye clinics every month in all parts of the country for the benefit of needy elders. The mobile clinics also provide the beneficiaries with eye screening services which provide spectacles and to detect elders who are suffering from cataract”.
Quoted in the statement, HASL, Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge commented that the donation received via Dialog star points were used to perform free of charge cataract operations at the charity’s “Eye Care Hospital” in Wellawatta. It was also used to provide 1,292 free spectacles last year. He also added that HASL requested Dialog customers to continue donating their star points by dialling #141#.
