IDB to be revamped to provide efficient service for industrialists
Sri Lanka’s Industrial Development Board (IDB) is now being revamped to provide efficient service for industrialists, IDB Chairman Nawaz Rajabdeen disclosed.
The oganisation will be transformed to a fully-fledged and modernised industrial facilitation agency harnessing maximum contribution and productivity of the qualified staff, he said, adding that foreign scholarships will be offered to senior staff members to train overseas.
The staff will be motivated by providing incentives creating a conducive environment to extend their services to entrepreneurs, he revealed.
An SME entrepreneur network and electronic database had been established to maintain close links between the IDB and industrialists, Mr. Rajabdeen said.
Regional development, planning, marketing, engineering, technical services, entrepreneur development are some of the IDB’s specialised services, he added.
The IDB staff provides specialized services in transfer of technology in food, chemical, leather and rubber industries, industrial information, product development, entrepreneurship development and consultancy, he said.
The IDB will hold SMIDEX 2014 Small & Medium Industrial Exhibition at the BMICH in Colombo from May 23-25 for the first time in the history of the IDB taking Sri Lanka to the new era of industrialization, Mr. Rajabdeen said.
The exhibition will showcase not only the local and international innovations but also create a unique platform for industrialists and the policy makers specially in SMI development, he added.
