Sri Lanka Army’s 15,000 vehicle fleet is to constantly undergo vehicle emission testing in line with the government’s green environmental policy, army sources said.

These vehicle emission tests will be carried out by LAUGFS Holdings Ltd vehicle emission test centres countrywide, a senior army officer said.

The Army vehicle ‘Green Test’ programme was launched at the Laugfs Attidiya emission test Centre recently.

The programme, initiated by the Directorate of Supply and Transport in the Army on the directions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, saw the first Army vehicle, undergo the standard emission test.

The army has a large fleet of vehicles that emit noxious gases polluting the air.

A senior army officer said that they are focused on becoming environmental friendly and the first move is to carry out vehicle emissions tests to ensure they do not pollute the environment.

The vehicles are to be tested in 160 centres and mobile testing units countrywide.

The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake told the gathering who attended the inauguration ceremony that the emission test is helping enormously to keep cities clean without polluting air and maintaining army fleet of around 15,000 vehicles to suit environmental standards.
