‘Kosthapal Punyasoma’ ready for duty
View(s):‘Kosthapal Punyasoma’ (Constable Punyasoma) Udayakantha Warnasuriya’s latest comedy will be released at Regal Colombo and other CEL circuit cinemas around the country from May 2.
A satirical look on a policeman the film revolves around a series of events relating to a police team. Playing the star role as ‘Kosthapal Punyasoma’ is seasoned actor Mahendra Perera who plays with a group of veteran artistes like Sriyantha Mendis, Duleeka Marapana, Gamini Hettiarachchi, Ravindra Yasas and Srinath Maddumage who play other main roles.
The film revolves around Kothsapal Punyasoma, an honest policeman. His friend Sergeant Wickremapala played by Gamini Hettiarachchi is his best friend while their senior officer is Panditharathna (Sriyantha Mendis). They experience a number of complex yet hilarious events during their service. The story goes that Punyasoma’s wife Champa (Duleeka Marapana) is impatiently waiting for her husband’s promotion and a subsequent salary increment.
It is at this stage that a gang of robbers abduct a young woman demanding a ransom of several millions from her parents. The responsibility of finding the girl fell on Punyasoma and his police station. The police hardly suspect that the abduction plot is made by none other than, Viraj, the girl’s boyfriend himself. The film takes many comic and dramatic turns during the attempt by the police to find the girl.
Others in the cast include Janaka Ranasinghe, Sisira Kumarathuga, Ronnie Leach, Lasantha Udukumbura, Chathura Perera, Lahiru Mudalige, R. G. Siriwardena, Ananda Athukorala and Menik Wijewardena who makes her debut appearance on the big screen.
Udayakantha’s 18th direction is filmed by Ayeshman Hettiarachchi, while it is edited by Praveen Jayaratne and makeup is by Wasantha Vittachci. Art director is Manoj Priyantha while Donald Jayantha assisted the direction of ‘Kosthapal Punyasoma’. The film is jointly produced by D. Wijesuriya, Deepa Fernando, Sunil T. Fernando, Shanthi Warnasuriya, Dayawansa Jayakody and Sumiththa Kularatne for ‘Bahuroo’ Films.
Bathiya and Santhus and Lanthra Perera of the ‘Doctor’ musical band created the playback songs which were sung by Nalin Perera, Lanthra Perera and Bathiya Jayakody.
