Civil Aviation bosses may fly away to Dubai
View(s):Civil Aviation Director General H.M.C. Nimalsiri and his deputy, Senior Director Parakrama Dissanayake have both applied for the same job abroad — as advisor to their counterpart in the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, reliable sources said.
Both officials were not contactable throughout the day yesterday. Several messages left for them remained unanswered. However, Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne claimed he knew nothing of their applications for the foreign post, but the sources said the two officials were due to attend interviews in Dubai next week. “They may even fly together”, the sources added.
Earlier, there was speculation that Mr. Nimalsiri had resigned from his post as Director General when Minister Jayaratne refused to endorse his application. As his junior, Mr. Dissanayake had got his papers approved by Mr. Nimalsiri. But when the Director General took his documents to the minister, they said, he had not approved them.
But the Minister denied any knowledge of the Director General seeking employment in Dubai and said no papers were submitted to him for signing. “I’m hearing it for the first time from you,” he added. “I will check with my secretary.”Ministry Secretary Ravindra Ruberu said he was not aware of any of these developments and he had not received
a letter of resignation from Mr. Nimalsiri. The Director General and the deputy have extensive experience in the industry and Mr. Nimalsiri is, no doubt, aware that he must be contactable at all times in case of an emergency.
