SL gets Avurudu gift from international hackers
Local technology blog readme.lk is reporting the April 15 and 16 coordinated hacking attack on 129 Sri Lankan websites, including top-level sites like nic.lk (LK domain registrar), gov.lk (Official Country Portal), cbsl.gov.lk (Central Bank) and immigraton.gov.lk, as well as corporate sites including srilankan.com (SriLankan Airlines), slasscom.lk (IT body), vallibelfinance.com (Vallibel Finance), cicagri.com (CIC Agri Businesses), slpa.lk (Sri Lanka Ports Authority) among others. A full list of websites that were either defaced or otherwise affected by DDOS (dedicated denial of service) type attacks is accessible at readme.lk. However, it must also be pointed out that, according to readme.lk’s report, the so-called #OpSriLanka, coordinated by Shadowforce, and attributed to groups such as Indian Haxors Team, Indian Cyber Rakshak, RedCult (Lebanon), Muslim Cyber Corporation (Indonesia), Pakistan Haxors Crew, Ip Sova Crew (Malaysia), Indonesian Red Code Team, Elite Cyber Army (Philippines), Afghan Cyber Army, Indian Cyber Devils, and a number of others, as well as even individuals, resulted in “relatively little damage [actually] done”.
Meanwhile, hackerspoint.com, which was actually the first to report on the then ongoing attack, on April 16, also featured a link to a pastebin.com document that alleges that this attack also yielded several database leaks featuring now compromised administrator login and password details, most of which have already been removed by pastebin.com.
