Ananda crush Jaffna Hindu by innings
Ananda crushed Jaffna Hindu College by an innings and 126 runs in their annual cricket encounter between the two schools played for the Sivagurunathan Trophy which ended at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.
The comfortable win saw Ananda take the Trophy which is played in memory of a teacher in both schools.
Ananda taking first lease of the wicket on day helped by a knock of 65 by Nisal Fransisco and useful contributions coming from Lakkana Jayasekera and Asel Sigera posted a formidable score of 254 for 8 declared.
Jaffna Hindu College in their turn succumbed to some effective bowling by Kavindu Anjula and Sandaken Pathirana who together shared seven wickets between them being bundled out for just 45.
Made to follow on with a deficit of 209 runs the visitors ended day one in a bad position of 83 for 9. The second day’s proceedings saw Jaffna Hindu College resuming from their overnight score lasting only nine balls being bowled at the same score of 83.
